Orange + Classic Blues = Perfect Pairing

Orange + Classic Blues = Perfect Pairing

Posted by Zen and Caron on Jan 21, 2020

Pair a punchy orange with a dark navy blue for a dramatic effect that brings energy and excitement into your beach home during the fall and winter months! Helps to bring a little warmth while you wait patiently for spring...

Orange and blue are opposite each other on the color wheel and – like yin and yang – these seemingly contrary colors are actually complementary! Orange is an intense color that brings vibrancy and warmth into any space. It evokes feelings of joy and happiness – like a gorgeous beach sunset. Combine this energetic hue with a cool and calming navy blue to create a stunning yet balanced look for your coastal home.

Check out these 10 style ideas we’ve collected for inspiration on how to bring this dynamic pairing to your beach home!

1. Pure elegance with a nautical twist! We simply adore this playful living room designed by Libby Langdon - featuring our Soho Tangerine Cooper Area Rug (P.S. These are on SALE right now)

2. From Coastal Living Magazine - love love love the way these vintage life rings were framed! Hmmm... gives me an idea. We do have 3 of these vintage orange life preservers hanging in our warehouse - hoping to have up on our site by the end of the week.

3. Another beautifully balanced room designed by Libby Langdon.  Love the luxury bedding with just hints of orange that coordinate perfectly with the uniquely created orange nightstand.  The room also features one of our favorite Libby designed rugs - the Soho Light Grey Waves Rug (also on SALE!)

4. Simply adorable space! Love the total infusion of bold orange and blue hues, seagrass rugs, seaglass tumbled vases juxtaposed against the lush navy blue sofa. (love the art!) Must see all of these color-drenched rooms at the Attwater Hotel's Urban Beach House as profiled on House of Turquoise

5. Blue and white is a super "safe" (boring) choice in decorating, and definitely makes a fun beach house less "fun". Be bold!  Add pops of orange, like these intriguing upholstered stools underneath the navy blue console table with the orange decorative boxes perched on top. Voila' - your foyer is instantly glam and ready for beach house guests! Designer Stephanie Kraus

6From HGTV and designer Darcie Goodman. Can't beat that ocean view!  This room is extra special with the orange pillows to add that extra oomph; otherwise we think this space would feel a little cold - it needs the tangerine pillows to give it excitement and warmth.  We also like that the space has a "coastal" style without being overly "beachy", with the shells and stunning coral piece as accents.

7. One of our favorite spaces - the guestroom in the HGTV 2015 Dream Home, created by Brian Patrick Flynn.  Polished and fun with nautical details that simply stand out with panache!  So easy to bring a modern coastal style to a space without being too "nauti".

8. Maybe just toss in an orange, or coral-orange accent pillow to liven up your exiting blue and white spaces?  Easy, and affordable to create a brand new look! (so sorry - not sure of image source!)

9. Modern, dramatic and stunning with the orange lamps as the accents in this navy blue hued living space. Gotta say... we love the large white octopus art too! (so sorry - not sure of the original image source)

10. One more pretty beach styled bedroom! Love the natural elements in the jute woven rug and in the fun pendant lighting. Simple and easy to do with layers of blue trimmed bedding and an orange quilted coverlet.  We might add another set of colorful quilted shams too.... Similar Woven Pendants can be found on our site (source Good Housekeeping Magazine - no longer showing on their site)

See - so many decorating ways to add just a little color to dramatically change up your space! Have fun - can't wait to see what you create.
