One thing to make sure to avoid when applying decor accents into your space to freshen it up or create a seasonal look, is to make sure you do not overload with too many pieces or too many competing styles! This is called 'beachy kitsch',  a coastal design BIG faux paux.

Make sure to not stray away from your perfectly curated home - you do not want your beach house to look like a seaside gift shop!

Some tips we have come up with to help curate your space with decorating accents:

  1. Avoid any matchy-matchy looks at all costs! The decor should flow evenly within the room, but subtly.
  2. Odd numbers often make for more aesthetically pleasing groupings of items, such as groups of threes or fives.
  3. Mix it up a bit with adding depth or height when arranging your accessories, something different than symmetry.
  4. Repurpose items from outside! Bring in a sand-dollar, piece of coral or even dried palm leaves. This creates a natural and neutral look.
  5. Have fun! Arrange and then rearrange until you are satisfied with your decorating skills! Remember, these are decorating accents, easily movable and interchangeable - and stylish in moderation!
