Cocktails from Maui

Ah.... February the perfect time to dream of a vacation back to Maui. So, this weekend we are mixing up fun cocktails to remember our wonderful time there last fall with our friends and family! (until we can go again...sigh)

On our last trip, we took a drive up to Kula to explore the Ocean Organic Vodka distillery and farm - so cool! Amazing views and a fabulous tour of the whole operation, from growing and harvesting the sugar cane to distilling and bottling their famous Vodka and their new Maui only rum.

And then we did the tasting.... with a rainbow!
So much fun, and super interesting tour about how the sugar cane is grown, including Hawaii Sea Spirits efforts to preserve the incredible variety of sugar cane species that are currently disappearing from the islands. Loved the story behind the why of the shape of the Ocean Vodka bottle - so much like a fishing float (in my favorite color!). You really need to go to get the rest of the story....
Before leaving we grabbed a stack of their cocktail recipes from the General Store to try. This weekend we made their "Tangerine Honey" martini. YUM. The perfect winter/early spring cocktail as lovely juicy citrus is so plentiful at local farm stands and local grocery stores.
Tangerine Honey
- 1 1/2 oz. Ocean Vodka
- 1 1/2 oz. Fresh Tangerine Juice
- 1/2 oz. Honey
- 1/2 Piece of Sage Leaf
Muddle tangerine juice, honey and sage in a shaker. Add Ocean Vodka and just a short shake all together. Pour into a chilled martini glass, garnish with tangerine peel or candied orange peel and if you like sage, use another small leaf piece to also garnish
I promise you will love this! Refreshing and such a good reminder that spring will be on its' way soon.
