Waves of Change: Why Coastal Decor Costs Are Shifting
Posted by Caron on Apr 14, 2025

Dear Beach Friends,
I’m writing to share some insight into how recent tariff changes are affecting our business—and ultimately, how they may impact you as our valued customer.
What prompted this message was a noticeable uptick in sales over the past week, which made me think that some of you may be shopping ahead of possible price increases. So I wanted to take a moment to explain what’s happening behind the scenes.
Over the past year, our crew has made a concentrated effort to source more items made in the USA, for example many of our pillows, glassware, coastal art, and our made to order rugs. However, many of the pieces that give our homes that breezy, coastal elegance are crafted overseas. From handwoven lighting fixtures and artisan-made ceramics to wall mirrors, textiles, and accent furniture—many of these treasures are imported. For instance, most lighting with electrical components comes from Asia, and many of the hand-finished accents and decor elements we carry originate in Europe, Indonesia, or India.
As of now, nearly all imported goods are subject to a 10% tariff, with some materials—such as steel or aluminum—taxed even higher. Goods made in China currently carry tariffs of up to 125%. Many of our long-time vendor partners have already begun adjusting their prices accordingly, and we're expecting more price increases in the weeks ahead as current inventories run out and new shipments reflect these added costs. We are working closely with them to mitigate price increases as best we can.
It’s important to understand that these tariffs are paid by U.S. importers—not foreign manufacturers—which means small businesses like ours are directly impacted. As we receive updated pricing from our suppliers, we do our best to adjust responsibly, aiming to preserve the margins we need to keep our business afloat, while still offering you beautiful, high-quality decor at fair prices. You might even notice that we've added Free Shipping to be automatically applied to many of our larger decor pieces....
As anyone who’s taken Econ 101 knows, higher prices can slow demand—and that’s never something we want to see. Like many independent retailers, we’re carefully navigating this shifting landscape, working through updates to pricing, product sourcing, and the not-so-glamorous data work that goes along with it.
Our mission has always been to bring the serenity of the coast into your home—through thoughtfully chosen pieces that tell a story. That mission hasn’t changed, and we’re committed to transparency and integrity as we move forward.
After many years of sharing this journey with you, we’re grateful for your trust, support, and understanding. It means the world to us.
